Who we are: The Middle School Lacrosse Program was formed in 2002 as SBMLC. We are a feeder team to the Memorial High School Club Team and are made up of 5th-8th-grade girls. The Program currently consists of three middle school teams 7/8 A team, 7/8 B team, & a 5th/6th Grade Team.
Eligibility: Girls zoned to attend MHS are eligible to play for the club. Girls attending other schools must first receive approval from the MS Director to play for the club. Girls from private schools who are considering attending MHS are encouraged to join the club. Please email MS Director with any questions you may have about the club.
Season: The following details are subject to change based on field and coach availability. Fall practices start mid September. Regular season practices begin in January and games run from February through April. Starting January, practices are two days a week and will be Tuesday & Thursday. Regular season games are played mostly on Saturdays, but there can be some weekday games. The Club plays games against private schools and club teams. The Club may travel for out of town tournaments or games. There is an end of season tournament to crown a city champion in all age groups. End of season tournament this year will be April 27/28th. Location to be determined.
League Games: The club is a member of the Greater Houston Girls Youth Lacrosse Association (GHGYLA) which is comprised of club teams from the Houston area. (Stratford, Pin Oak, Pershing, Klein, Friendswood, Woodlands, CyFair, Kingwood, Sienna, Katy, Pearland, Clear Lake, & Swizzle Sticks) The league holds an end of season tournament to crown a city champ.
NonLeague Game: The club also plays against area private schools. (Kinkaid, St. Johns, ROB, AOS, St. Francis, etc.)
Tournaments: The Club plays in the fall and spring. Some tournaments may require travel & overnight stays. Additional expenses & fees will be incurred for out of town tournaments.
Off Season: Girls are highly encouraged to participate in a summer lacrosse camps, clinics, & travel teams to further develop their individual skills. The Club partners with 3 D lacrosse http://3dlacrosse.com. 3 D lacrosse offers clinics and elite teams in the Houston area and beyond. For other camps and clinics see our page.
Dues: Set yearly based on club expenses, the number of members in club & team assignment. 2018/19 dues are $450
Spring Branch ISD (SBISD): The Club receives no funding from SBISD. The Club must pay for coaches, referees, field rental expenses,etc. SBISD allows the club to use school fields & stadiums for a rental fee.
Volunteers: The Club depends entirely on the active involvement of our parents. We ask our parents make a commitment to the Club by volunteering for activities and committees. The club relies on parent volunteers to serve as coaches, board members, team parents, scorekeepers, chaperones, etc.
Tryouts: Teams will be determined during January practices. Cuts will be made if team sizes are determined to be too large.
Practice Location: Spring Branch Middle School
Practice Times: Fall ball 5:30-6:45. Dates TBD. Spring practices Tuesday and Thursday 4:30-6:00 PM
Home Field Games: Games are played at Grob Stadium.
US Lacrosse: All team coaches & club members must be a current member of US Lacrosse. (Membership cost is $30 annually and must be current through May 31st 2019)
Registration: Online Registration opens by mid September. All players will need a UIL physical completed after April 1st 2018. The Club must have a hard copy of the UIL physical. If you have turned in a UIL physical to the school, the Club will still need a copy. The UIL physical may be found on our home page under middle school tab and documents tab as well as SBISD Athletics home page.
Team name: Beagles = Spring Branch MS Bears + Memorial MS Eagles
Required Player Gear: Girl Lacrosse Stick, Goggles (Cage style), Mouth Guard, Cleats & Turf shoes. (Must be US Lacrosse Legal)
Uniforms & Team Gear: Team uniforms are included with team dues (Subject to change). Each member will receive a game uniform top, kilt & reversible Pennie. Game uniform tops must be returned at the end of the season. Extra kilts must be purchased, and each player will receive one kilt to be used for multiple seasons. Team undergarments & other team gear must be purchased separately.
Other Sports: Girls playing in another sport that overlaps part of the lacrosse season are still expected to honor their commitment to the club, even if that means going to both activities on the same day.
Training outside of team practice: Players are expected to regularly practice skills learned at team practices outside of team practices.
Goalies: Always looking for athletes with great agility, hand-eye coordination, reaction time & footwork to play this all-important position.
